SBVC Women's Soccer sophomores Jordyn DeJongh, Valerie Romero and Jordan Steele have signed their National Letters of Intent with Louisiana State University, Alexandria.
Jordyn DeJongh (Citrus Valley High School) a two-year starter and captain with the team, participated in 39 games over two seasons, starting in 32 amassing 2 goals and 2 assists in addition to being the defensive captain on the back line. DeJongh was named 1st Team All Pacific Coast Athletic Conference in 2017 as well as PCAC Defender of the Year. In addition, she was named to the CCCSCA All-So Cal Team and was selected to the CCCSCA Sophomore Showcase team.
Jordan Steele another two-year starter and captain participated in 44 games over two seasons, starting in 36. She had 11 goals and 7 assists from a defensive position. Steele was named 1st Team Pacific Coast Athletic Conference in both 2016 and 2017. In 2016 she was also named PCAC Defensive Player of the Year, CCCSCA All-So Cal and All-State and NSCAA All-Region and All-American. In 2017, she was named PCAC Player of the Year, CCCSCA All So Cal and All-State and was selected to the CCCSCA Sophomore Showcase team.
DeJongh and Steele were key pieces of a stellar defense that had 19 shutouts in 2017 which is a new Valley College women's soccer record.
Valerie Romero a forward from Chino High School participated in 40 games over two seasons with 8 goals and 2 assists. Romero was named All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference in 2017.
The Valley College Women's Soccer Team finished the season ranked 12th in the nation by the USC (United Soccer Coaches) ending the year with a 20-2-2 overall record and a 13-0-2 conference record. They were rewarded with a #7 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs. As a reward for their ninth Conference Championship, the team was bestowed with Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year honors as well as five first team All-Conference players.
Two previous Valley Soccer players have attended LSUA, Lauren Fisher of Colton High School and Brandi Ferguson of Rancho Verde High School.
Louisiana State University, Alexandria is in Alexandria, Louisiana. The Generals are coached by 4th year head coach, Michael Poropat. In the 2017 season, the Generals went 13-4-2 overall and 8-1-1 in conference play. LSUA is a NAIA institution whom plays in the Red River Athletic Conference.
