SBVC Takes Fourth at Golden West Race

Over the course of a cross country season, runners log hundreds of miles in training. And when you have a team of runners as deep as the San Bernardino Valley College squad, sometimes that means that not every runner has to run at every race.

Such was the case Sept. 19, when the Wolverines ran at the Golden West Invitational in Huntington Beach.

With many of the team's top runners cheering on from the sidelines, the Wolverines finished fourth as a team, as many of the team's freshmen got a chance to test themselves near the front of the pack.

Adam Acuna, a freshman from Jurupa Hills High School, was the first member of the SBVC squad across the line. He finished 10th overall, posting a time of 21 minutes, 17.10 seconds on the 4-mile course. Fellow freshman Maximiliano Resendis (Arroyo Valley) was not far behind, finishing 15th in 21:28.34.

Samuel Chavarria was next to stop the clock, finishing 22nd with a time of 21:56.22. Rounding out the scoring five were Austin Foster (22:29.66) and Diego Caldera (22:29.85), who finished 41st and 42nd, respectively.

But don't think that the top runners are getting off easy. Many of them will be in action during the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 27, an 8-kilometer race that will feature teams from across the region.
