2014 Season in Review - Football

Under first-year coach John Shipp, SBVC finished with a record 6-4 overall and 4-3 in conference. SBVC started the season 2-0, but lost three of the next four games in hard fought contests that could have gone either way and in the end, SBVC was just a game out of returning to a bowl game. As a reward for their winning record, the team was bestowed with two first team All-Mountain Conference honors and six second team All-Mountain Conference honors.

On the field, sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Gibbs (Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos) led the way for SBVC, being named Region IV All-California first team offense and a unanimous selection to first team offense as the top receiver in touchdowns (12) and in yards per game (94.8). His best game of the year was at home against San Diego Mesa, where he found the end zone three times and torched the Olympians secondary for 206 yards on nine catches. Gibbs also had 100+ yard reception games against Compton and East L.A. In week eight versus San Diego Mesa, Gibbs grabbed the Mountain Conference Player of the Week honors for his nine catches for 206 yards and three touchdowns, with a long of 57 yards.

Also being named Region IV All-California first team offense and first team offense was sophomore offensive tackle De'Arius Young (Cincinnati, OH Princeton) who helped anchor an offensive line that only surrendered 37 sacks.

On the second team offense All-Mountain Conference were sophomore offensive guard Tyler Simonsen (Redlands East Valley) who paved the way for the other second team offense player, sophomore running back Kendrick Dorn (Rancho Cucamonga H.S.) who had the top average yards per game (108.8) and the top touchdowns (15) in the Conference. His biggest rushing games were at Mt. San Jacinto (163) and against West LA (152). In week ten at Southwestern, Dorn collected the Mountain Conference Player of the Week honors for his 113 yards on 28 carries and three touchdown performance.

On the second team defense All-Mountain Conference were freshman defensive tackle Siala Siliga (Redlands H.S.) helped lead a defensive front that led the Conference in sacks and total tackles. Siliga had 51 total tackles and 4.5 sacks on the season totaling a loss of 39 yards, his best game of the year was at home versus San Diego Mesa with nine total tackles and two sacks totaling a loss of 25 yards. Also named second team defense was freshman outside linebacker Stefen Kirkland (Redlands East Valley) who collected 43 total tackles, two sacks and two interceptions on the year. His best game was at Santa Barbara to start the season with eight total tackles.

Also named second team defense was sophomore corner back Angel Delgado (Fontana Henry J. Kaiser) who led the Conference in interceptions with seven including one which was run back for a 34 yard touchdown at home versus College of the Desert, to help SBVC win back the SBVC-COD Challenge Trophy for the first time since 2006. In week one at Santa Barbara and again in week five against College of the Desert, Delgado was presented the Mountain Conference Player of the Week honors.

Also named second team defense was sophomore punter Cody Madsen (Redlands East Valley) who was the punter and kicker all season punting 46 times for a total of 1710 yards, averaging 37.2 yards per punt including a long of 66 yards and putting the ball inside the 20 yard line 11 times. In week seven at Victor Valley, Madsen was presented the Mountain Conference Player of the Week honors, his seven punts for 285 yards, averaging 40.7 yards per punt, including a long of 62 yards.

SBVC had four Offensive Players of the Week, five Defensive Players of the Week, three Special Teams/All-Purpose Players of the Week and 12 Honorable Mentions.
