SBVC Holds Off Late Push from Barstow

Coming back from the half with a 19-point lead against Barstow College, the San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team looked to be well on its way to another Inland Empire Athletic Conference victory.

The Wolverines got the victory - but not without a little bit of nervous time in the second half.

Barstow got back with six points with 6:56 to go before San Bernardino Valley was able to break down the Vikings to pick up a 87-68 victory to remain undefeated in conference play.

SBVC opened the game on an 11-1 run in the first 3:13, and led 42-23 after 20 minutes. But Barstow's defensive pressure picked up in the second half, as the Wolverines struggled to make their shots early in the half. But SBVC made its way to the free throw line to help stem the tide, shooting 20 times from the charity stripe in the second half, compared to only six free throws attempted by the Vikings.

Duante Murphy, who made back-to-back 3-pointers to open the game, led the way for the Wolverines with 22 points and eight assists. Stanley Thomas II had 21 points, and Jaden Riley added 20 more off the bench. D'Antae Woods added 13 more points off the bench.

Dashon Palmer led Barstow with 18 points off the bench.
