SBVC Wears Down Canyons to Advance

If there has been one constant from the San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team during the 2025-26 season, it's that they can rotate players in and out of the lineup and wear down their opponents.

That was the case again Wednesday night, as the Wolverines got 43 points from its non-starters in a 76-60 win over College of the Canyons in the first round of the 3C2A Southern California Regional playoffs inside the SBVC Athletics Complex.

SBVC advances to play at Mt. San Antonio College at 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Wolverines and Cougars played a tight back-and-forth game for most of the first half, with SBVC finally pulling ahead to lead by five at the break. And things remained tight early in the second half, until SBVC went on a 9-2 run as the teams reached the mid-way point of the second half.

After a tough first half from the field, SBVC made 50 percent of its shots in the final 20 minutes, as Channing Shelton came off the bench and scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in the period. He finished the game going 9-for-9 from the field. Starter Duante Murphy posted a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, as SBVC won the battle of the boards 44-36. Brian Cabrera and Jaden Riley each had 10 points off the bench as well for SBVC.

Julius Washington led the Cougars with 14 points, as four of their five starters finished in double figures.
