Lightning Quick Goals Lifts SBVC

Lightning Quick Goals Lifts SBVC

Nothing puts a charge in a soccer team more than an early goal.

And when you can three goals in the opening 10 minutes of a half, it's going to do even more.

The San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team scored 20 seconds into the second half to open the scoring, then added two more before 10 minutes had elapsed in the second half, helping the Wolverines pick up an important Inland Empire Athletic Conference victory over Norco College.

The Mustangs kicked off to start the second half, but the Wolverines turned the ball back the other way. Emmanual Guzman got the ball on the right side and he tried to center the ball, but the ball deflected off a Norco defender and landed at the feet of Adrian Casillas. Casillas settled the ball, took a step and fired the ball past Norco goalkeeper Adan Zamora to give the Wolverines the 1-0 lead.

In the 54th minute, it was Casillas again strking for the Wolverines. He stripped a Norco defender of the ball just outside of the penalty area, took a couple of steps and again beat Zamora for the brace and the 2-0 lead.

A minute later, it was Julio Sobrantes picking the pocket of a Norco defender in the middle of the field, going in alone on Zamora to make it 3-0.

From there, the Wolverines worked to hold the Mustangs at bay. Norco got one back in the 73rd minute, as Jaun Zaragoza headed home a corner kick from Jovanni Molina.

Zamora made three saves for Norco, while SBVC goalkeeper Henzel Solares made one save, as SBVC held Norco to only six shots total, with only two ending up on goal.

SBVC closes out its season Wednesday at Chaffey College.
