Six Punch Ticket to State

Going into the 3C2A Southern California Track and Field Finals at Bakersfield College on May 9, San Bernardino Valley College had already clinched two spots in the State Finals.

After the finals, four more athletes will join them at Mt. San Antonio College on May 15-16.

The Wolverines will have a six athlete contingent participate at the event, which kicks off at noon Friday at Hilmer Lodge Stadium at Mt. SAC, with two SBVC athletes competing Friday evening, and the other four taking the track Saturday.

Zach Calderon and Savannah Flores had each punched their tickets to the finals by qualifying in the 10,000 meters on May 2. Those two will run in the finals Friday evening, with the women's race scheduled to start at 7 p.m., with the men taking off at 7:45 p.m.

The Wolverines will have two athletes competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase finals. In the regional finals, Callie Frias dropped five seconds from her personal best in the event to qualify with a fifth place finish in a time of 12 minutes, 18.82 seconds - the third-fastest finish in school history. That event is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. On the men's side, Micah Watson finished second at the regional finals with a time of 9:36.37.

SBVC will have two jumpers also competing at the finals. 

Jordan Carter will take the field at 5 p.m. to compete in the triple jump finals. At the regional final, he posted his season best jump at 47 feet, 3 inches. Meanwhile, Tamia Hardwick will end her successful first season competing in the long jump finals, scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start. She finished third at the regionals with a jump of 18 feet, 4.5 inches.
