The San Bernardino Valley College men's cross country team posted a fourth-place finish Sept. 5 at the Clovis Crush Invitational at Woodward Park in Fresno.

The event draws the top cross country teams in the state and serves a preview of the State Championships in November. SBVC finished with 116 points, 13 points behind third-place Hartnell. Last year's state champion, San Diego Mesa, was second and Clovis claimed the top spot. 

SBVC freshman Micah Watson led the way for the Wolverines, finishing fifth overall in the field, and was the top finishing freshman. He posted a time of 21 minutes, 21.2 seconds on the 4-mile course. 

Sophomore Zach Calderon was next across the line for SBVC, stopping the clock at 21:39.3 for 17th place. Samuel Chavarria wasn't too far behind, finishing 23rd with a time of 21:46.0. Freshmen Adam Acuna (35th, 22:02.2) and Maximiliano Resendis (36th, 22:03.6) rounded out the scoring five for the Wolverines.

SBVC heads to Huntington Beach on Sept. 19 to participate in the Golden West Invitational.
