SBVC Gets Bounce to Blank Norco

For the bulk of Friday's women's soccer game, San Bernardino Valley College's squad seemed to be in firm control against visiting Norco College.

But, for all the control the Wolverines held, they were unable to find the net.

However, in the 66th minute, SBVC got the goal it needed on the most innocent looking chance of the game. Faith Facio looped a ball into the penalty area from about 30 yards out. The ball bounced once and Jayla Orozco headed the ball high enough that it looped over the hands of Norco goalkeeper Annalise Magana and into the top corner of the net to give the Wolverines the only goal it would need, beating Norco 1-0.

The Wolverines peppered Magana with shots throughout the game, as SBVC outshot the Mustangs 21-3. Magana made nine saves on the 10 shots on goal.

Meanwhile, on the other end, Bella Silva made one save for the clean sheet. But the one was clutch. In the 26th minute, Norco's Scarlett Gutierrez sent a corner kick into the box, and the Mustangs' Savannah Echavarria put her head behind the ball on goal. But Silva dove over to knock the ball away to preserve the scoreless tie at the time.

SBVC is back home at 4 p.m. Tuesday taking on College of the Desert.
