Going into Friday's season finale against Southwestern College, the San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team knew it was in position to make its first postseason appearance since 2022.

But that wasn't good enough for the Wolverines. They wanted more. And they got it.

The Wolverines' 3-0 victory over the Jaguars helped move SBVC up in the rankings enough that it was announced the following Sunday that SBVC would be hosting a first-round playoff game Wed., Nov. 19 against Mt. San Jacinto College at 11 a.m.

SBVC got the scoring started early on the drizzly afternoon. In the sixth minute, Jayla Orozco popped the ball over the top of Southwestern's defense and Melanie Bravo took control of it at the top of the Jaguars' penalty area. She drove in on goal and overpowered Southwestern goalkeeper Aaliyah Campbell with a shot the the far post for the early 1-0 lead.

That early goal fired up the Wolverines, and they doubled their lead about 10 minutes later. This time, Jacqueline Gonzalez sent a long ball up the middle that Sienna Villalobos tracked down and fired into the net to make it 2-0.

Meanwhile, the SBVC defense was parrying away the Jaguars' attacks. They limited Southwestern to only 10 shots in the game, with goalkeeper Bella Silva only needing to make two saves.

The Wolverines got insurance late in the second half. In tight, Averie Ball pushed the ball to Dianna Cajella, who fired it past relief goalkeeper Rebeca Perez to complete the scoring.

SBVC is the No. 16 seed in the South Region of the 3C2A Women's Soccer Playoffs, and is taking on MSJC. The winner of Wednesday's game will play at top-seeded Saddleback on Saturday.
