With championship season beginning this week, members of the San Bernardino Valley College track teams competed in one last meet before starting their path to the state championships.
Members of the women's team were at Cerritos College on Saturday for the Cerritos Invitational, with many runners starting to peak at the right time.
Alondra Ruiz finished in second place in the 3000-meter steeplechase, posting a time of 13 minutes, 16.78 seconds in her first attempt in the event. The time reaches the state "B" standard, and is the 19th-fastest time in the state this year. Ruiz also posted a personal best in the 800 meters, clocking in at 2:49.23.
Her teammates also did well in the 800 meters, with Sara Jaquez finishing sixth overall with a time of 2:22.91, while Zailah Armenta post a personal best at 2:35.21.
The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championships begin Wednesday with the preliminary rounds, with the championships scheduled for Saturday
