Members of the San Bernardino Valley College track and field teams split up last weekend, testing themselves against teams from across the state and from various levels depending on discipline.
Athletes from the distance crew traveled to San Francisco to participate in the Mike Fanelli Classic at San Francisco State.
Savannah Flores had a productive weekend in San Francisco. Friday, she participated in the 5000 meters, taking second place in her heat, posting a time of 18 minutes, 38.25 seconds, lopping 19 seconds off her personal best. The time is also the second fastest time in the event in SBVC history.
Saturday, she came back and finished fourth in her heat in the 800 meters, posting a personal best in the event at 2:27.32.
The rest of the team participated at the Moorpark Invitational on Friday.
Tamia Hardwick continued her strong season in Moorpark. She finished second in the triple jump, posting a mark of 39 feet, 2.25 inches – which was the second best jump in the 3C2A this season. In the long jump, she posted a personal best – and the fourth-best jump in the state this season – with a mark of 18 feet, 6 inches. And in the high jump, she finished in a five-way tie for third at 4 feet, 11 inches.
Emma Fierro posted a personal best in the 5000 meters in Glendale, finishing sixth with a time of 21:12.20.
The team regathers for the Cerritos Invitational on Friday, before heading to the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference prelims on April 15.
